Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare, in partnership with Bi-State Development, will begin construction Monday, Dec. 16, on a major upgrade to the Central West End (CWE) MetroLink station. Highlights of the project include the installation of wider stairs, a new canopy that will cover a larger part of the platform, and a welcome center at the Euclid entrance to the station. Construction work at the station will commence with the installation of barricades for pedestrian safety.
The project also will include the installation of a new passenger elevator. To accomplish this, the station’s existing elevator will be taken out of service Dec. 26 for demolition. The new elevator is expected to be completed by August 2020. Those in need of an elevator will want to use the platform’s accessible entrance, which is on the platform’s eastern end. This entrance is accessed through the Metro Garage.
The project is expected to be completed in December 2020.
