COViD-19 custodial action plan

With the recent outbreak of the respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus (COVID-19), custodial services have implemented the necessary precautions to help mitigate the spread of the virus throughout the medical campus. Below are the steps that have been implemented;
• Disinfection of touchpoints
o Custodians to disinfect door handles/push plates at the entry of facilities and exterior/interior door handles
o All Custodians continue to wipe door handles after servicing the area (wipe hand rails,wipe elevator buttons daily)
• Education
o Re-educate staff on the efficacy of chemicals
o Post signage of effective hand washing techniques in restrooms
o Educate custodial staff on the difference between surgical and N-95 mask

• Supplies
o Increased ordering levels on hand sanitizer, soap and paper towels
o Immediate response for inoperable dispensers
• Equipment
o Ordered additional HEPA filter vacuum cleaners (immediate replacement of inoperable vacuums to help control air particulates)

The pathogen has now invaded over 47 countries, with California and Germany recording the first cases with no obvious source of transmission. The novel coronavirus is a single-stranded RNV virus, very similar to SARS and MERS virus. Because the virus can survive on vectors for several hours, it is highly recommended that individuals thoroughly wash their hands multiple times per day and use alcohol based hand sanitizers in conjunction with washing of hands.
