Newstead Ave. Street Improvements Project Continues – Street Closure, Phases 6, 9 & 10 and Metrolink Crossing

L. Keeley Construction continues to work on the Newstead Ave. Street Improvement Project.
REVISED – NEWSTEAD STREET CLOSURE – At the METRO Track Crossing – NOVEMBER 13 – 20, 2020

Please see the diagram of the construction area for the Newstead Ave. Street Closure planned for Friday, November 13th at 5am to Friday November 20th at 5pm.

In order for METRO and the construction team to complete the signal replacement at the Newstead Ave. METRO Track Crossing and open the widened road, we will need to conduct two (2) separate street closures at either side of the tracks.

The closures are needed to install street improvements and paving required to open the newly widened road, and finish the installation and replacement of the METRO crossing signals.

The first street closure is expected to occur from Friday, November 13th to Friday, November 20th, weather depended. L. Keeley will be installing street improvements and paving the widened road in Newstead Ave. from Clayton Ave. to Duncan Ave.

The second street closure is expected to occur the first or second week of December. The final dates of this closure are pending notification from METRO.

Lane Closures – All lanes of Newstead Ave. on either side of the track crossing will be closed to all through traffic. Access to and from all side streets, garages and buildings will remain open and accessible during paving operations and the street closure.

PHASE 6 – Newstead and Duncan Intersection – North East Corner of the Intersection

Please see the diagram of the construction area for Phase 6.

Phase 6 work is now 90% complete, with only the balance of the intersection widening and lighting left to complete. (Duncan/Newstead intersection signal replacement and road widening & paving will be completed in a later phase.)

Please expect traffic control measures (cones & signs) and minor construction traffic until all work is completed.

PHASE 9 – Street Widening in Front of the 4444 Forest Park Building

Please see the diagram of the construction area for Phase 9.

Phase 9 construction is ongoing and is expected to continue through mid-January 2021 pending weather.
Closures – During Phase 9, the construction team will be widening Newstead Ave. in front of the 4444 Forest Park Building. The widening will involve widening the street 14’ into the existing parking lot, removing one (1) entry/exit, making modifications to adjacent sidewalks and planting areas, and restriping the lot to accommodate the new dimensions.
Please anticipate construction vehicles entering and exiting the 4444 parking lot and street, and congestion due to construction, as construction activities continue in the area.

PHASE 10 – Street Widening at the SLCH Daycare Site

Please see the diagram of the construction area for Phase 10.

Phase 10 construction is ongoing and is expected to continue through late January/early February 2021.
Phase 10 includes the replacement of the Duncan Ave. and Newstead Ave. intersection. The work includes the replacement of all signalization of the intersection, and re-alignment of the roadway at the NW (4444) and SW (SLCH Daycare Center) corners of the intersection.

Closures – During Phase 10, Newstead Ave. southbound lane will be closed and two (2) lanes of traffic (both northbound and southbound) will be open and shifted to the east side of the roadway. In addition, drive lanes, turn lanes and through traffic at the intersection will be temporarily narrowed to statutory minimums. Temporary re-striping and traffic measures will be put into place.

Please anticipate construction vehicles entering and exiting the street, and congestion due to construction, as construction activities continue in the area.

METROLINK CROSSING WIDENING – Widening the Metrolink Crossing on Newstead
The Metrolink Crossing has been removed, regraded, and the track crossing widened.

METRO is currently working to install new electrical infrastructure and signals for the recently widened crossing. Once complete, new lanes on Newstead Ave. will be able to open for use.

Please anticipate construction vehicles entering and exiting the street, and congestion due to construction, as construction activities continue in the area.

If your commute to work includes driving Newstead Ave., please plan additional time for your commute to work, in anticipation of delays, congestion, changes to traffic and traffic patterns due to construction during this project.

Your patience and cooperation, while we work to improve the campus, is sincerely appreciated.
