Facilities Operations Update

Sustainability Updates – bike tune ups and scrub recycling

This summer, the Operations & Facilities Management Department, in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, is bringing free bike tune-ups to the WUSM farmers’ market once a month! The final bike tune up will be held October 7th. The free bike tune-ups will be performed by Vanimal, a mobile bike shop that provides repair services for every kind of bike. If you would like an email reminder the day before a tune-up, please submit this form.

As of September 1st, many scrub wearing WUSM employees are now required to wear red, black, and gray scrubs. Instead of chucking your old scrubs into the trash, bring them back to work! The Operations & Facilities Management Department, in partnership with the Office of Sustainability and MedNik Riverbend Textiles, is hosting a month long (September 3 – October 10) scrubs collection to prevent scrubs from entering the landfill. MedNik Riverbend accepts donated textiles and recycles them into industrial strength cleaning products. Since 1930, the company has become the Midwest’s foremost recycler of industrial textiles, so rest assured your scrubs are in good hands!

The only requirement to recycling your scrubs is that they must be clean and have the WashU logo removed before dropping off at one of the designated collection sites:

• McDonnell Pediatric Research building
• BJCIH lobby
• Clinical Sciences Research Building/BJCIH link
• FLTC atrium
• 4444 Forest Park lobby
• Taylor Avenue Building lobby
• McDonnell Science lobby
• Mid Campus Center link by SLCH, Duncan or Metro garage(s)
• Clayton/Taylor Parking Garage
Check with your supervisor about department specific drop off locations.

If you have any questions, please contact WUSM Sustainability Coordinator, Heather Craig, for more information.
