Weapons Detection System goes live December 11th at Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Parkview Tower

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

As Barnes-Jewish Hospital continues efforts to provide a more secure environment, at 5 am on December 11th, walk-through weapons detection will be activated in Parkview Tower to screen all patients, visitors and team members, including medical staff.

Visitors and patients entering Parkview Tower at the main entrance/street level or from the garage elevators into the lobby will be directed to the weapons detection system before being badged. They will either be badged at the information desk or the Women and Infants Center, depending on their destination. Employees staffing a new desk outside the garage elevators will help guide visitors to the system.

Please note that laptops, umbrellas, glasses/sunglasses in hard cases, and water bottles with screw-top lids must be removed from bags and pockets and held before walking through the system.

Expect delays at these entrances as everyone first uses the system. If these locations are where you normally enter campus, please plan accordingly for your day.
Download these frequently asked questions that Public Safety has received from team members to learn more about the weapons detection system.

The system serves as a reminder that weapons are not permitted on any Washington University or BJC property, including garages. You can find BJC policies related to weapons on the HR Hub:

Weapons detection launched this summer at the main and street level entrances in Plaza Tower and will launch at other entrances throughout campus next year in a phased rollout.

Feeling safe represents just one part of maintaining a warm, welcoming environment. We’re also working to provide a sense of belonging not only for our team members but for our patients, their families, and the greater community who entrust us with their care.

Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe and for living Our BJC Values during this ongoing implementation.
