Lots of exciting changes are happening on the fourth floor of SLCH, and soon, you’ll have a chance to tour the new inpatient unit before it opens.
About 4400
A new 16-bed inpatient unit, 4400, is scheduled to open September 22, with a beautiful design that captures the essence of Forest Park and the activities children can enjoy there. The “Roll through the Park” theme is depicted on large murals featuring children rolling along paths on bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, and wagons.
The design theme is the foundation of creating an improved experience and wayfinding for our patients and families. The design and colors reimagine the existing Forest Park theme by shifting the perspective to a child’s actions and experiences on a park adventure.
The design is intended to engage patients and families with a range of graphic, interactive and tactile elements and make the theme more inclusive and universal. Even the new wayfinding uses color and themed elements to guide parents and family members to a patient room.
Patients from the current GI/GU unit will relocate to 4400 on the morning of September 22, and each child will have the opportunity to cut a ribbon leading into their own room.
4400 Open House – Thursday, Sept. 17, 1-5 p.m.
Team members and physicians are invited to see the new space and theme during an open house on September 17 from 1-5 p.m. Unit staff will be on hand to point out features and answer questions.
Green (Visitor) Elevators and 4th Floor Corridor to Reopen September 11
With construction on the fourth floor nearing completion, the visitor elevator lobby and corridor to Therapy Services will reopen September 11. This is welcome news for those navigating to the staff elevators and following detour signs.
