Location: Mid Campus Center (MCC) Bike Rack
Synopsis: An employee parked his bike at the MCC Bike Rack on 7/25/2024 at about 9:30 am. He believed he locked his bike to the rack. However, it appeared that the bike was not secured. When he returned to the rack at about 5:30pm, his bike was gone. A review of CCTV footage showed two unidentified subjects stole the bicycle at about 1:00pm. A BOLO for the two subjects was disseminated among campus security. Protective Services is investigating.

Location: Jeffrey T. Fort Neuroscience Research Building (Fort Labs) West Bike Rack
Synopsis: An employee parked her scooter at the west bike rack at the Fort Labs building on 7/27/2024 at 9:00am. The scooter was secured with a loose chain lock. The employee left the scooter overnight and drove her vehicle home. When she returned on 7/30/24, the scooter was gone. A review of CCTV footage revealed an unidentified woman approached the bike rack on 7/30/24 at 2:14 am. She was able to slide the scooter through the chain lock and rode south on Newstead Ave. Protective Services is investigating.

Location: Euclid Power Plant Bike Rack
Synopsis: While reviewing CCTV cameras, a Protective Services investigator observed a subject using bolt cutters to remove a cable lock from a bicycle parked at the Euclid Power Plant bike rack. The subject removed the bicycle from the rack and rode south on Euclid Ave. Protective Services officers located and detained the subject. They took the subject into custody and recovered the stolen bicycle. Officers called the SLMPD who declined to respond. The subject was warned against future trespass and escorted from campus. The bicycle was returned to the owner.
Disposition: Suspect Arrested. Trespass Warning Issued.

Synopsis: An employee reported her wallet stolen from her desk located in a Washington University suite on the first floor of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital West Pavilion. A blank check was in the wallet and later cashed at a down town bank in the name of a Barnes-Jewish Hospital employee. BJH Public Safety confirmed the employee was also the victim of a theft. Protective Services and BJH Public Safety are jointly investigating.

Synopsis: A WUSM faculty member reported the theft of seven Cardinals baseball tickets totaling approximately $224. The tickets were in a red drawstring bag. The faculty member accidentally left the tickets in a 2nd floor bathroom in the Mid Campus Center on 8/21/2024. The faculty member remembered they were in the bathroom after already returning home for the evening. The faculty member returned on 8/22/2024 and checked the bathroom. The drawstring bag was still there. However, the tickets were gone. Protective Services is investigating.

Location: BJC Institute of Health Bike Corral
Synopsis: A WUSM faculty member reported the theft of her bicycle from the bike corral near the BJC Institute of Health. She placed her bike in the corral at approximately 10:30 am but did not use a locking device to secure it to the rack inside the corral. When she returned to the corral at 5:00pm. the bike was gone. A review of CCTV footage showed an unidentified subject climbed the fence of the bike corral, stole the bicycle, and left north on S. Euclid Ave. Protective Services is investigating. Update 8/29/2024- The same subjects returned to campus near the BJCIH bike rack. Protective Services officers detained them and notified their parents who took custody of them.

Synopsis: A Barnes-Jewish Hospital employee notified Protective Services officers their bicycle was missing from the bike rack when they returned for it following their shift. The BJH employee had secured the bicycle using a cable lock. A review of CCTV footage revealed a subject exited the MetroLink and looked at the bike before walking away. The subject returned a short time later and tampered with the bike. The subject ultimately defeated the cable lock, removed the bike from the rack, and rode it southbound away from campus. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis: Protective Services officers responded to the MCC Campus Bookstore for a report of a theft. While enroute, officers located the subject responsible. The subject had taken two hygiene items from the store without paying. The items were recovered and returned. The subject was identified and released with a warning against future trespass.

Location: BJC Institute of Health (BJCIH)
Synopsis: An employee reported his backpack missing from the first floor of the BJCIH. He left his backpack containing approximately $2000 worth of equipment in the fire control room. The door was propped open. When he returned about 20 minutes later, the backpack was gone. A review of CCTV footage showed an unidentified subject piggy-backed into the building and took the backpack. He then rode the elevator to the fourth floor. Protective Services officer were unable to locate the subject. However, they found the backpack in the bathroom of the 4th floor. The employee reported nothing was missing from within. About an hour later, Protective Services received a delayed report of a subject trespassing in a lab on the 9th floor of the BJCIH. The description of the subject matched the description of the person who stole the backpack. The employee did not report the incident for several hours. Protective Services is investigating.

Location: McDonnell Pediatric Research Building (MPRB) 7th Floor
Synopsis: An employee reported a suspicious person sleeping in the 7th floor break room in the MPRB. Protective Services responded and made contact with the subject. Officers determined the person had no legitimate purpose in the building. The subject had consumed food and drinks from the break room that did not belong to him. He also took emergency flashlights from the break room. Officers took the subject into custody and called the SLMPD. The SLMPD declined to respond. Officers warned the subject against future trespass and escorted him from campus.
Disposition: Subject Identified. Trespass Warning Issued.
