At WashU Medicine, supportive amenities create a campus environment where people feel informed, empowered, and valued. Through the Campus Wellness Facilities Program, we strive to ensure that all members of the medical campus are informed and knowledgeable about the spaces available on campus.
The Campus Wellness Facilities Program keeps the WashU Medicine community connected to essential resources. The program enhances the experience through the management of wellness spaces, including Child Development Center Services Support, Lactation Spaces, Shower and Lockers, Menstrual Hygiene Products, Skin Smart Campus, Single-Occupant Restrooms, and a Reflection Space.
These amenities reflect WashU Medicine’s commitment to well-being and sustainability by promoting active living, supporting work-life balance, and ensuring that all members of the campus community have access to spaces that prioritize comfort and personal care. Together, these programs demonstrate our commitment to creating a healthier, more informed environment where services and communications support the WashU community.
Child Development Center Services Support
Child Development Center Services support a high-quality, safe, accessible, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports learning, health, and well-being for all children and families served by the Child Development Center at the Taylor Avenue Building.
Lactation Spaces
Lactation Spaces offer private, comfortable, and hygienic spaces for breastfeeding or pumping. These rooms support work-life balance, ease the transition back to work for new parents, and help foster a family-friendly campus that prioritizes retention and wellness.
Menstrual Hygiene Products
Menstrual hygiene product dispensers provide free access to essential supplies in designated spaces across campus. This program advances health equity, reduces stigma, and ensures no individual’s participation in work or learning is limited by a lack of access to basic hygiene needs.
Reflection Space
The Reflection Space provides a serene environment for personal reflection, prayer, or meditation. This room supports campus wellness by acknowledging the importance of quiet space in a high-paced academic medical setting.
Showers and Lockers
Showers and lockers support commuters, shift workers, and active employees by providing secure lockers and clean shower facilities throughout campus. These resources promote sustainable transportation choices, such as biking and walking, while reinforcing WashU Medicine’s wellness and environmental goals.
Single-Occupant Restrooms
Single-occupant restrooms provide private facilities that cater to a wide range of needs, including individuals seeking greater privacy, those with mobility or sensory considerations, caregivers, and anyone who prefers a more private restroom experience.
Skin Smart Campus
The Skin Smart Campus initiative at WashU Medicine promotes a healthy campus environment by prohibiting indoor tanning devices in all university and affiliated buildings, and by advancing skin cancer prevention education and policies. This designation aligns with national efforts to reduce skin cancer rates.
