Synopsis: A WUSM employee reported the handle of a vehicle parked in the Clayton Garage was on the ground near the vehicle. Protective Services determined the vehicle belonged to the University. It was last used approximately two months prior. The door handle appeared to be pried, however no entry was made. The damage was dust covered, leading officers to believe it occurred several weeks or months ago. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis: A Cortex security officer contacted Protective Services after witnessing a subject break into a vehicle on the surface lot at 4363 Duncan Ave. While Protective Services officers were responding to the parking lot, they observed a subject who matched the description provided by the Cortex officer near The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis. Protective Services officers detained the subject and determined he was responsible for the vehicle break-in. He had several stolen items in his possession. The SLMPD was called and reported to the scene. The SLMPD arrested the subject and removed him from campus.
Disposition: Suspect Arrested. Judicial Disposition Unknown.

Location: 4488 Forest Park Ave. Surface Parking Lot
Synopsis: Protective Services officers responded to the 4488 Forest Park Ave. parking lot for a report of a suspicious vehicle. A bike patrol officer located a silver Dodge Ram truck backed into a parking space. The truck was consistent with a truck that was suspected of being involved in a vehicle tampering event on Barnes Jewish property about 30 minutes prior. The officer began to give verbal commands to the occupants of the truck, when the truck sped away. Another Protective Services mobile officer followed the truck, however the truck broke several traffic laws while fleeing from campus, south on Boyle Ave. Protective Services officers did not follow due to potential safety hazards. The bike patrol officer determined the occupants of the truck had attempted to break into a vehicle on the parking lot. The rear window was damaged during an attempt to break it, however officers interrupted the crime and the subjects were unable to enter the victim's vehicle. Protective Services is investigating.

Location: 4510 McKinley Ave. Surface Parking Lot
Synopsis: BJH Public Safety investigators were viewing CCTV footage in real time and observed a silver Dodge truck that had been involved in previous vehicle tampering events on campus. The investigators conducted a search of campus and observed the truck backed in next to another vehicle on the parking lot. The investigators entered the lot to confront the truck occupants, however the truck exited the lot at a high rate of speed, nearly colliding with another vehicle. Officers determined the occupants of the truck had broken into a Chevrolet Silverado that was parked on the lot. The rear driver's window was broken and the glove box had been opened. SLMPD arrived to investigate the seen. Protective Services is investigating along with BJH Public Safety and the SLMPD.

Synopsis: A contract employee reported damage to his vehicle while parked on campus. The employee believed his girlfriend possibly tampered with his vehicle while he was working. His check engine light was on after his shift. He took the vehicle in for service and determined a green substance was poured into his gas tank. The employee requested Protective Services view CCTV footage in the area. CCTV footage showed a woman approached the employee's vehicle and manipulated the gas tank area. The employee reported the matter to the SLMPD.

Synopsis: A WUSM contract employee reported damage to his vehicle while it was parked in the Clayton Garage. The employee parked his vehicle in the garage at approximately 6:45 am. When he returned at 3:30pm, he found the driver's door was open and the handle had been pried. He also noted that the steering wheel assembly had been pried in an attempt to get to the ignition switch. The employee's wallet and $2000 worth of tools were stolen from the vehicle. A review of CCTV footage revealed a suspect vehicle. A relevant BOLO was issued to campus security. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis: A WUSM employee reported a University-owned vehicle had been ransacked. The vehicle had been parked in the BJCIH dock over the weekend. The employee entered the vehicle and noticed paperwork was strewn all over the seats. In addition, the glove compartment had been opened and someone had rifled through it. The vehicle doors did not appear to forced open or otherwise damaged. A review of CCTV footage in the area showed an unidentified subject entered the vehicles while in the process of burglarizing the BJCIH building. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis: Protective Services responded to S. Euclid Ave. and McKinley Ave. for a report of a car alarm sounding. Officers canvassed the area and determined a vehicle on McKinley Ave. and a vehicle parked in front of the Maternity Hospital Building had been broken into. A review of CCTV footage showed an unknown black sedan occupied by at least two unidentified persons were involved in the break-ins. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis: Protective Services officer observed a UTV being driven by an unknown person out of the NRB dock. The UTV took off at a high rate of speed and ignored all traffic signals and signs as it left campus. The SLMPD took a report. The UTV was later recovered in St. Louis City and a juvenile subject was taken into custody.
Disposition: Suspect Arrested. Judicial Disposition Unknown.

Larceny/Vehicle Tampering

Synopsis: Protective Services officers observed a vehicle parked on Scott Ave. had the car alarm activated. Upon further investigation, officers determined the window was broken out of the vehicle. Three additional vehicles on Scott Ave. had broken windows, as well. A review of CCTV footage showed a small Hyundai or Kia sedan occupied by three unidentified subjects broke into the vehicles within an approximate 10 minute window. The same vehicle then attempted to break into several vehicles parked in the Physician Emergency parking lot near the Maternity Hospital Building. The SLMPD responded and took a report.
Disposition: Referred to the SLMPD. Investigation Ongoing
