Assault

Synopsis:  A Protective Services officer observed a subject attempting to enter a secured door at the east entrance of the McMillan Hospital Building. The officer advised the subject that he could not enter the building. The subject was immediately verbally combative. The officer persisted in telling the subject to leave the area and issued a verbal trespass warning. The subject charged toward the officer unprovoked. The officer attempted to back away to create distance, however the subject physically engaged the officer. The officer defended himself and attempted to gain control of the subject. Both the subject and the officer fell to the ground at which time a WUSM employee bystander stepped in to aide the officer. Several other Protective Services officers arrived on scene and subdued the subject who actively resisted arrest. The subject, the bystander, and the officer were uninjured in the altercation. The SLMPD responded to campus and arrested the subject for assault.

Attempted Larceny

Location: Euclid Power Plant Bike Racks
Synopsis:  Protective Services officers observed a subject behaving suspiciously at the Euclid Power Plant bike racks. The officers believed the subject was attempting to steal a bicycle. They approached the subject who fled on foot. Officers pursued and caught up with the subject near the intersection of S. Taylor Ave. and Nash Way. The subject was noncompliant with officers’ commands and repeatedly reached inside a bag he was carrying. Officers eventually took the subject into custody and determined he had active warrants. The SLMPD responded to campus and arrested the subject.

Location: 4480 Clayton Ave. Rear Surface Lot
Synopsis:  An employee reported a large floor mat was missing after she power washed it and left it out to dry on the rear surface lot of the 4480 Clayton Ave. Building. The employee washed the mat on 7/3/2023 but did not return for it until 7/6/2023. CCTV revealed a different employee took the mat without permission on 7/5/2023. The employee was confronted and returned the mat.
Disposition: Investigation Complete.

Trespassing

Synopsis:  A subject entered the MCC and was immediately recognized as a known trespasser who has attempted to access the Dean’s Suite on previous occasions. Protective Services officers detained him and called the SLMPD. The SLMPD responded to campus and placed the subject under arrest for trespassing. UPDATE: On 5/3/2024 at 12:15 pm, the same subject returned to campus and was immediately taken into custody by Protective Services officers. Protective Services called the SLMPD to remove him from campus. However, the SLMPD did not respond. The subject was released and escorted from campus.

Synopsis:  A visitor secured his bicycle to the MCC bike rack on 6/24/2023 and departed campus. Upon his return later in the evening, his bicycle was gone. A review of CCTV footage showed an unidentified subject defeated the cable lock and stole the bicycle. A relevant BOLO was disseminated to campus security.
