Incident No. 2301-00033 (Protective Services Incident), Report No. 23-004360

Location: Clayton Garage
Synopsis:  Protective Services responded to a report of a subject who was breaking side mirrors off of parked vehicles in the Clayton Garage. The subject left the area prior to the officer’s arrival but was located a short time later through CCTV footage walking on Duncan Ave.  Officers responded to the area and confronted the subject who fled on foot. A brief foot pursuit ensued and the subject was eventually taken into custody. The subject verbally identified himself as a juvenile. Officers transported the subject to the Mid Campus Center at which time they searched his backpack. The backpack contained eight side mirror covers from various vehicles. The SLMPD arrived and contacted the subject’s parents who declined to pick him up. The SLMPD took the subject into custody. Protective Services responded back to the Clayton Garage and determined only one vehicle was damaged.
Disposition: Subject Arrested. Judicial Disposition Unknown.

Synopsis:  A WUSM employee reported her wallet missing from her office. The employee placed her wallet in cabinet in her 6th floor office in the Wohl Clinic Building on 1/23/2023. Upon returning to work on 1/24/2023, the wallet was gone. The wallet contained IDs, credit cards and cash. Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis:  Reported to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.  Unknown subjects broke into three vehicles parked at the Euclid Meters. Two firearms were stolen from the vehicles.  BJH Public Safety and the SLMPD responded to take a report.

Synopsis:  A WUSM employee reported a shared laptop was missing from a cabinet in the clinical simulation conference room in the Barnes Service Building. The employee last used the laptop on 1/11/2023, at which time she returned it to the cabinet. She attempted to retrieve it on 1/13/2023 and it was gone. The room is only accessible to WUSM faculty members, however they are often accompanied by medical students.  Protective Services is investigating.

Synopsis:  A WUSM employee reported the theft of his lunch box from the 2nd floor of the Biotechnology Building. The employee placed his lunchbox in a room at approximately 12:00pm. He later saw an unidentified subject who he did not recognize on the 2nd floor of the building. Shortly thereafter, the employee realized his lunchbox was gone.  Protective Services is investigating.

Location: Mid Campus Center (MCC) 11th Floor
Synopsis:  A WUSM employee reported her purse was missing from her cubicle on the 11th floor of the MCC. The employee received a fraud alert from her bank about suspicious transactions on her bank card. At that time, she noticed her purse was gone. The purse contained her bank card as well as two sets of car keys. Shortly after, another employee located a white coat and the employee’s purse in the stairwell, however the bank card and keys were missing. The employee was able to secure her vehicle. A review of the CCTV footage in the area revealed an unidentified subject first stole a white coat from the 2nd floor of the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center before making his way to the MCC. After stealing the purse, the subject immediately left campus on the MetroLink. The employee reported the theft to the SLMPD.  Protective Services is investigating.

Location: Taylor Ave. at Scott Ave.
Synopsis:  A Lyft driver reported driving southbound on S. Taylor Ave. when the vehicle next to her stopped near the crosswalk. The Lyft driver could not see around the stopped vehicle and did not notice a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The driver stopped once she saw the pedestrian, however the pedestrian walking in the crosswalk was upset. The pedestrian cross through the crosswalk, but then turned around and grabbed the passenger side mirror of the Lyft driver’s vehicle. The pedestrian pulled on it, causing damage. The pedestrian continued walking down Scott Ave. and the driver proceeded to drop off the Lyft passenger. The driver then realized the power to the mirror was non-functional. The pedestrian was identified as a WUSM employee. Protective Services is investigating.
