Facilities Operations Update

MDAS project (Groups A & C) updates

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
As a reminder, a Multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System (MDAS) will be installed over the
next 18-24 months to provide cellular service for ATT, Sprint-T-Mobile, and
Verizon connections throughout the Medical Center Campus. The
construction will be completed in phases targeting specific building groups.

What’s happening in your building?
Construction in four buildings (i.e., 20 – Clinical Sciences Research Building, 21 – Wohl Clinic, 22 – Wohl Hospital, 86 – CSRB-North Tower Addition) will follow this timeline:

  1. Infrastructure phase (installation of cable, antennas & testing
equipment): Monday, August 23rd, 2021, to Friday, Jan 21st 2022.
  2. Swap-over (i.e., move existing Sprint signal to new MDAS): February 5-6, 2022.
  3. AT&T & Verizon signals forecasted to be integrated by 2-20-22.

Who’s impacted?
Staff, patients and families within the designated areas should experience
limited disruptions to egress/ingress. Vendors will be accessing above ceiling areas with or without a lift and will work to ensure that they are not blocking access in hallways, patient rooms, offices, etc.

What do you need to know?
Contact CSC Support if you have any questions regarding the in-building cellular system.

Will you receive additional communications about this?
Communications will be sent via email to alert of the next areas that will beimpacted until the installation is complete.

Also, the greater portion of the MDAS (in-building cellular system) infrastructure construction has been completed for the building listed below. On Sunday, September 12th, On Air Solutions (OAS) will “turn down” the existing “Sprint/T-Mobile Only” in-building cellular system and “turn up” the new MDAS; the existing Sprint/T-Mobile in-building cellular system will experience a 60-minute service interruption between 12pm-1:00pm. The new in-building cellular system will continue to provide “Sprint/T-Mobile Only” coverage.

On Air Solutions, and the Cellular Carriers will continue work in the designated buildings. Although the corridor cabling work is complete, perimeter walks will occur to test and optimize the new system.
