McDonnell Pediatric Research Building-Air Handling Unit Service Interruption 2/3/2023 6 pm-2/6/20223 7 am

A new supply fan motor will be installed in the large supply air handling unit (AHU-1) that serves labs on the western side of the building (including all of the BSL3 labs). AHU-1 will be operating during the outage with just one fan in service; however, the cross-connect panels between AHU-1 and AHU-2 will be opened to allow AHU-2 to assist with serving the AHU-1 supply ductwork during the outage.

During the AHU-1 outage, the following operational conditions will be expected:

  • A shutdown of both AHU-1 and AHU-2 and associated exhaust air handling units will be necessary at the start of the outage to open the cross-connect panels. This work will occur between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM on Friday (2/3). No work may occur in any of the BSL3 suites or any of the laboratory fume hoods during this 1-1/2 hour period. Space may be a little warmer or cooler than normal during this period.
  • Once the cross-connect panels are opened and the supply units are restarted, normal supply airflow is expected to all of the labs in the building including the BSL3 suites.
  • The exhaust airflow to all of the BSL3 lab suites will be operational during the outage.
  • A shutdown of both AHU-1 and AHU-2 and associated exhaust air handling units will be necessary at the end of the outage to close the cross-connect panels. This work will occur between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM on Monday (2/6). No work may occur in any of the BSL3 suites during this two hour period. Space may be a little warmer or cooler than normal during this period.
