Facilities Operations Update

Construction on the New Taylor Avenue Building Children’s Learning Center (replaces CAB Childcare Center) starts in April 2024

Relocations of several departments from the Taylor Avenue Building (TAB) to facilitate the immediate development of childcare facilities on the east side of TAB and long-term opportunities for other mission-critical needs have begun. This project reflects the School of Medicine’s commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of our employees and their families.

The affected departments are expected to vacate the space by next week. OFMD’s planners are working with the departments to program needs and identify alternative workspace options for the concerned departments, with the final enabling relocations to take place by mid-February.
Selective demolition for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEPFP) field investigation will begin the week of February 29th (removal of ceiling tiles, cutting holes in the walls and some selective core drilling). Heavy interior demolition will start in early March and should be completed early to mid-May, with the exterior/playground work TBD. Construction should begin in April 2024, with substantial completion of the project on March 30, 2025. We hope to open the new childcare center in the spring of 2025.
