REVISED-Farrell Learning & Teaching Center, North Medical Building, Cancer Research Building, South Medical Building, Bernard Becker Medical Library, Olin Residence Hall, McDonnell Medical Sciences Building, East McDonnell Facility, Couch Biomedical Research Building, 4522 McKinley, Specialized Research Facility East, Specialized Interim Research Building, Facilities Engineering Supply Room-Electric Service Interruption 3/31/2024 3-7 am

The purpose of this outage is to perform maintenance and testing on the ‘W’ feed portion of the McKinley Substation switchgear. Facilities electricians will perform switching in all affected buildings, to isolate and de-energize the ‘W’ feed. Facilities electricians and Service Contractors will inspect and test the breakers, relays, and major components of the de-energized portion of the switchgear. Once all inspections and testing are complete, facilities electricians will restore power in all affected buildings to normal operation.

Building/Areas affected:
The following list shows what buildings, and how they are affected by this outage:

  • FLTC – Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • NOR, CRI, SOU – Single lined at Courtyard Substation to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • LIB, OLI, & NOR Basement Mechanical Room – ‘W’ Feed is the only utility power source to these areas. (They will see total loss of normal power for the duration of the outage. NOR Generator will run, to provide limited emergency power to these areas.) With the loss of power to the North Building mechanical room: the water (domestic and chilled), lab air, vacuum, and possibly air handlers depending on the outside temperatures that morning for Cancer, North, and South buildings will be affected.
  • MCD – USS-1 & 2 on 6th Floor, Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • MCD – USS-3 & Chillers will need to be manually switched from Preferred ‘W’ Feed to Reserve ‘D’ Feed. (Chillers, Basement mechanical equipment, and Shell Café will see brief power interruption during switching procedure.)
  • EMD – Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • COUCH – Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • EH&S – Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
    o -EH&S Fire pump will lose normal power and will start the generator.
  • SRF-East – Single lined to ‘D’ Feed Only. (Should not see any power loss.)
  • SRF – ‘W’ Feed is the only utility power source to this building. (Building will see a total loss of normal power for the duration of the outage. Emergency generator will run.)
  • Supply Room – ‘W’ Feed is the only utility power source to this building. (Building will see total power loss for the duration of the outage.)
