Facilities Operations Update

Demolition on main floor lobby of Barnes-Jewish Hospital starting September 30

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Starting Monday, September 30, contractors will begin the next demolition phase in the main floor lobby. They will demolish flooring, walls, and the old coffee bar behind the construction barriers that were built after the new pedestrian bridge opened in late August.

Demolition work, such as saw cutting and jackhammering, will start each evening around 8 pm, to minimize the disruption and will continue for approximately two weeks.

The McCarthy project team will coordinate with the OR staff on the floor above and the ICU staff on the two floors above, following the same plans and protocols during the demolition of other lobby areas.

Demolition will continue throughout the fall and winter, and the elevators serving the street and main floor lobbies will be removed. This construction phase will continue for about a year, with the installation of three new elevators and the expansion of the two-story glass atrium along Barnes-Jewish Plaza. The escalators will remain in service until the new elevators open.
