Facilities Operations Update

Four-month Kingshighway lane closure starts January 20th

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

The Campus Renewal Project is shutting down a northbound lane of Kingshighway just north of Barnes-Jewish Plaza for four months.

Starting January 20th, workers will reduce Kingshighway to two northbound lanes. The closure is north of Barnes-Jewish Plaza, adjacent to the New Plaza West Tower. Team members and physicians who regularly take Kingshighway should plan alternate routes starting January 13, when one northbound lane at Barnes-Jewish Plaza closes for four months.

The closure is necessary to complete site work in front of the new Plaza West Tower, including street, curb and sidewalk replacement; construction of the outdoor seating area for the new cafeteria; installation of lighting; and landscaping.

  • Message boards on Kingshighway will alert motorists to the lane closure and potential delays.
  • Concrete barriers will separate the drive lanes from the work area.
  • Two northbound lanes will remain open; southbound lanes are not affected. • The Barnes-Jewish Hospital emergency department entrance and exit drives will remain accessible.
    • No detours are associated with the work.
    • This work does not affect the Plaza Garage entrances and exits.
Team members and physicians will encounter delays if they take Kingshighway. The Boyle and Tower Grove exits from 40/I64 and Vandeventer Ave. from I44 provide campus access without increasing traffic congestion on Kingshighway.

The duration of the project is weather-dependent.
