The Steinberg project has begun. The project site perimeter fence installation will be completed by the end of this week or early next week. Once this fence is installed, walking through the Steinberg site will be impossible.
Instead, people parking west of Steinberg and walking east to gain access to Kingshighway will have to walk south of Steinberg’s parking lot to get from points west of Steinberg to points east of Steinberg. That will be the case through October of this year. Beginning in November of this year, some of the fence will be repositioned, which will then require people parking west of Steinberg who want to walk to the WashU Medicine campus from their parking spot to walk east along Clayton Avenue.
This is because constructing fences and water bodies creates a lengthy barrier to any direct walking route from the west to the east of Steinberg. Here are graphic representations of the areas to be fenced in Phase 1 and Phase 2. The duration of the Steinberg construction project is estimated to extend from next week through the fall of 2026.
