Facilities Operations Update

BJC Institute of Health – The Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza Restoration – Construction Update

After a slight delay to ensure future crane access was integrated into the plaza, allowing for the roofs of the existing surrounding buildings to be reached, work continues on the Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza restoration.

Phase I is currently underway and involves work within the existing construction fence. Preparation work for the Phase I concrete paving is expected to be completed soon. Pouring the concrete paving is scheduled to begin in late August and is expected to be completed by mid-October, pending favorable weather conditions.

Construction in the plaza will involve improvements to all areas of the plaza, including those currently outside the construction fence. The work will be phased, and the construction fence will be reconfigured. Pedestrian walk paths are expected to be temporarily rerouted around each phase.

Once Phase I is complete, the construction fence will be reconfigured to establish the Phase II area, and work will begin progressing through the plaza, in multiple phases. Throughout the whole project, we are expecting to have approximately six (6) phases of work around the plaza, with notable weekend closures of entry doors to buildings that open onto the plaza. These closures will be coordinated with building occupants when the work is scheduled to occur.

Project completion is currently scheduled for the summer of 2026.

If your work on campus takes you in or around the BJC IOH building and the Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza, please anticipate shutdowns, disruptions and inconveniences associated with the construction of this project.

Your patience and cooperation while we work to restore the plaza is sincerely appreciated.
