As renovations continue on the main level lobby at BJH South, work will begin on a busy corridor intersection. Contractors will partially block the area starting November 3 as they erect construction barriers. They plan to completely close the area on November 10 for approximately 5 months. Detour routes are outlined below.
This closure extends from just north of Admitting and Registration to the Mallinckrodt elevator lobby. This is a main thoroughfare for staff, patients, visitors, and families moving between the north and south ends of the campus, to the cardiac procedure center and emergency department, as well as to destinations such as the chapel, pulmonary rehab, and the eye clinic on the east/west McMillan corridor.
- Access to all patient care areas will be maintained, including the Cardiac Procedure Center, Emergency Department and all others along the route.
- Admitting and Registration main entrance is not affected.
- The corridor to the West Pavilion elevators will remain open.
- Access to and from the corridor past the old cafeteria will be maintained for those using the Rand Johnson and Mallinckrodt elevators. This route is for staff – patients and visitors should not be directed here.
Detour routes
Bright yellow signs with arrows and simple messaging will be posted along the following two detour routes: - Main level – this is the easiest and most direct route for patients and visitors – see map.
- Second floor – this route starts at the Central elevators on the 2nd floor. Team members and physicians may prefer it. It’s not recommended to send patients and visitors on this route.
The Planning, Design & Construction team will work with Guest Relations and make adjustments to signage, if needed.
The Plaza Entry portion of the Campus Renewal Project is being phased over several years. The Plaza Gift and Flower Shop, the new pedestrian bridge and garage lobbies, and the new Coffee Bar are earlier phases of this work. Three new elevators serving the street and main levels are scheduled to open in March. Additional phases will remove the escalators, replace them with a wide stairway, and renovate the flooring and walls around the Central Elevators.
