4/27-6/1: Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza Restoration – Sidewalk Closures & Future Phases

Now that more favorable weather has arrived, we are planning to advance work in the plaza at a slightly faster pace, pending weather. Additionally, as we complete work in the center of the plaza, our upcoming phases will work in the perimeter areas of the plaza, such as the Mid Campus Center circle, closer to vehicular and pedestrian walkways.

Please see the phasing drawing showing the upcoming phasing and tentative timing of closures.

Starting Monday, April 27, 2026, and continuing through June 1, 2026, pending weather, the Phase 4 portion of the plaza will be under construction. Work will be performed near the Eric P. Newman Education Center (EPNEC) and the McDonnell Pediatric Research Building (MPRB), so please expect some noise and disruption. Additionally, the sidewalk along the east side of this area, near the entrance to the UHSP campus, will be slightly altered to accommodate this work.

By June 1, 2026, it is anticipated that Phases 3A, 3B and 4 will be completed, and the pedestrian walkways will be shifted to allow subsequent Phases of work to begin.

Per the attached phasing drawing, the next phases of work planned to begin on June 1, 2026, will be Phase 5A along the north side of MCC at the MCC circle drop-off and Phase 6A along the west front entrance to EPNEC. These two phases are planned to run concurrently.

Please expect noise, disruption and congestion at the MCC circle from June 1, 2026, through August 30, 2026, in support of the Hope Plaza Restoration.

Primarily due to the weather and unforeseen changes in the field, all dates are approximate. This indicates that the construction team anticipates needing to shift phase dates, both earlier and later, to accommodate project progress.

If your work on campus takes you in or around the Steven & Susan Lipstein BJC Institute of Health and the Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza, please anticipate shutdowns, disruptions and inconveniences associated with this project’s construction.

Your patience and cooperation while we work to restore the plaza is sincerely appreciated.
