Forest Park Entrance Work to Begin Mid-May

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Forest Park Forever and the City of St. Louis are enhancing access and beautifying the entrance to Forest Park at Kingshighway and Hospital Drive starting in mid-May. The project is expected to have minimal impact on traffic, but there may be occasional lane reductions and construction equipment on Hospital Drive. The project will conclude in November, weather permitting.

Key points regarding pedestrian access at this intersection with Kingshighway:

  • On the northwest corner, the sidewalk to the trail within the park will remain accessible, with a reroute around the construction fence.
  • On the southwest corner, the sidewalk will close. Pedestrians wanting to walk south of the hospital complex along Kingshighway will need to cross to the east side.

Please note this work is not on Barnes-Jewish Plaza and does not affect the Plaza Garage or access to physician parking.

About the project

Forest Park Forever and the City of St. Louis are improving Forest Park’s entrances to make them highly visible and inviting. Improvements include:

  • Well-defined stone entrances clearly distinguish the Park from the surrounding urban environment and invite visitors to enter.
  • Additional signage and traffic calming measures to improve flow and safety for pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Seating areas to serve as resting and meeting places with new trees, landscaping and wayfinding signage.
  • Wide pedestrian pathways to welcome and direct pedestrians.
