10/5-10/12: Barnes-Jewish Hospital Main Level Elevator Lobby to Reopen and Other Changes Coming Soon

Sent on behalf of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Changes are coming to the hospital lobby again as the Plaza Entry phases of Campus Renewal are nearing completion. A new seating area and sculpture will grace the center of the lobby, a new landmark and meet-up location where the former fountain stood for 30 years.

The following changes will affect patients, visitors, team members, and physicians. See maps for more information.

  • October 5 – Close the main-level restrooms near Surgery Waiting and Registration.
    • These restrooms will close for renovation while we construct a new stairway where the old escalators were located.
    • Staff will direct visitors and families to other restrooms.
    • We expect to reopen by the end of the year.
  • Week of October 12 – Reopen the main level Central and Express elevator lobby.
  • Week of October 12 – Close the street level Central and Express elevator lobbies for renovation. The street level Express elevators will remain accessible for staff and patient transport from the north side. The street level lobbies are expected to reopen by the end of the year.

The finished lobbies

In addition to the new seating area and sculpture near the gift shop, the lobbies on both street and main levels will have the same bright flooring and walls as the sections already remodeled. The removed escalators will be replaced with a wide staircase, similar to the ones in the garage lobby and near the new Plaza West Tower, with a glass sculpture hanging from the ceiling. These sculptures are both beautiful in appearance and designed as landmarks to help with wayfinding.
