Preparation work for repaving Barnes-Jewish Plaza is continuing and will shift to the center lane on September 12. This area is explained below and shown on the map.
Phase 1 – leveling uneven areas
The first area being leveled, just east of the Plaza garage exit and shown in green, will be completed by September 11.
Starting September 12, the second area to be leveled is the center of Barnes-Jewish Plaza, west of the pedestrian bridge extending east past the garage entrance. This area is shown in red and will close for about three weeks.
- One lane will remain open in both directions adjacent to this area.
- Vehicles exiting the garage will have to turn right (east) and will be detoured via Euclid Ave., to Clayton Ave., to Hospital Dr., to Kingshighway. Signage will be posted.
- Exiting valet and drop-off vehicles will be directed around the closed area.
- A temporary crosswalk will be in place east of the lane closure (see map).
- Once this section is leveled, milling and repaving will begin.
Much of the work over the past several years has resulted in an uneven surface, with as much as a couple of inches of difference in some areas. Previous work included replacing city water lines and other infrastructure under the road, rebuilding the garage entrance, and relocating and expanding the main entrance and drop-off areas.
Phase 2 – milling and repaving (early to mid-October over two weekends)
During the second phase, the entire road between Kingshighway Blvd. and Euclid Ave. will be milled (removal of the old surface) and then repaved with asphalt. We will share the schedule, impact, and detours for this phase later this month.
