WashU Medicine encourages and supports the use of sustainable forms of transportation that lessen environmental impact, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen our sense of community.

Biking

Certified as a silver-level Bicycle Friendly Business, WashU Medicine offers a multitude of resources to support bikers.

  • Bike parking is found across campus, with locked and covered options available.
  • Free bike tune-up events are hosted each spring and fall. Dates are shared in the Sustainability newsletter.
  • Fix-it stations are available to perform basic bike maintenance.
  • High-quality U-locks are available at cost through the WashU Police Department.
  • Locker and shower rooms are available for WashU Medicine employees and students.
  • WashU Rides allows users to explore bike routes and even form a bike pool. The platform is accessible to everyone with a WUSTL Key.

Public Transportation

MetroLink and MetroBus stops across WashU campuses make public transportation a great way to get to, from, and around campuses. The Central West End station services both the Red and Blue MetroLink lines.

  • Full-time students and benefits-eligible employees can register for a complimentary U-Pass, which is valid for MetroLink trains and MetroBuses. U-Pass holders should follow the University’s guidelines and agreed upon terms.
  • Metro Park & Ride locations allow commuters who don’t live near a transit stop to park for free and take a MetroBus or MetroLink directly to campus.
  • MetroLink and MetroBus both allow riders to bring their bike for seamless multi-modal transportation.
  • WashU Rides helps users to plan their public transportation route and is accessible to everyone with a WUSTL Key.

Carpool and Vanpool

Carpooling and vanpooling are a great option to save money and build community across WashU.

  • WashU Rides connects individuals with similar commutes in order to form a carpool and is accessible to everyone with a WUSTL Key. Addresses aren’t shared until you choose to do so. See the FAQ page for more details.
  • Carpoolers can register for parking at the FISC desk and are automatically signed up for RideFinders’ Guaranteed Ride Home program.
  • RideFinders’ vanpool program provides a vehicle, maintenance, insurance, and gas, for any group of five or more individuals who want to commute together.

Guaranteed Ride Home

  • You must enroll in the program to be eligible.
  • Eligible circumstances include:
    • Sickness – personal, child, spouse or other immediate family members

  • This program is not able to provide rides due to rescheduled appointments like doctor visits, acts of nature such as a snowstorm or power failure, working late if you have at least one day of notice, or inability to arrange transportation home due to day-to-day planning issues.
