Shell Café – Bite of St. Louis, Monday, July 15th

As part of Bon Appetit’s Bite of St. Louis initiative, Shell Café will serve specials from Mom’s Deli on Monday, July 15th. It all started when Highway 44 was being developed, connecting downtown to West County. Forced to close their business due to the development coming right through their Edwards Avenue store on “The Hill”, Charles and Dolores Vago set their sites on a new business. On June 18, 1977, Mom’s Deli opened its doors for the first time. Selling sandwiches, fresh meats, groceries, beer, and wine quickly became a neighborhood favorite.
Customers can choose from Mom’s Special (Breast of Turkey, Ham, and Roast Beef, Pizza Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, Onions and Homemade 1000 Island) or the Veggie (Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, Onions, Mustard-Mayo Combo Dressing).

Both sandwiches come with a bag of chips and a fountain beverage for $12.00. Shell Café is open Monday through Friday, 7 am – 2 pm, with lunch service available from 11 am – 2 pm.
