Synopsis:  A WUSM employee reported deliberate damage to an incubator within a lab on the 6th floor of the 4444 Forest Park Ave. Building. The CO2 hose on the back of the incubator was detached, resulting in approximately $4000 worth of specimens being destroyed. Protective Services is investigating.

Larceny

Location: BJC Institute of Health (BJCIH) 2nd Floor
Synopsis:  A WUSM custodian left a custodial cart on the 2nd floor Link in the BJCIH while she went on break. When she returned approximately 30 minutes later, the cart was gone. A review of CCTV footage in the area showed an unidentified subject took the cart and walked with it through the link into the Clinical Sciences Research Building (CSRB). The subject encountered passing Children’s Hospital Public Safety officers, who confronted her about the cart. The subject abandoned the cart and left the area. The cart was recovered in the CSRB. The subject was identified on 7/29/2023, after Protective Services officers found her attempting to sleep outside the Clayton Garage. Barnes-Jewish Hospital Public Safety (BJHPS) officers had warned her against trespass after she was found sleeping in an unlocked vehicle that did not belong to her. BJHPS provided her pedigree. A relevant BOLO was issued to campus security in an effort to prevent her from future trespass.

Trespassing

Synopsis:  On 7/27/2023, Protective Services officers received three calls for a suspicious person trespassing in the McMillan Hospital Building. The calls were received from approximately 7:00am through 10:45 am. Officers were unable to locate the subject until the last call. The subject attempted to evade officers by boarding a MetroLink train. Officers were able to successfully detain the subject and identify him. He possessed several items that did not belong to him. However, it was unclear whether he took the items from the McMillan Building. Officers issued a written warning against future trespass and ensured he left campus.

Location: Nash Way, Hope Plaza
Synopsis:  While conducting an escort, a Protective Services officer observed two subjects fighting in Hope Plaza near the Mid Campus Center. The officer notified other officers in the area who arrived moments later. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that the aggressor was unknown to him. The altercation started when the aggressor bumped into the victim while he was walking through Hope Plaza. The victim verbally confronted the aggressor about bumping into him on purpose. The victim then walked toward the MetroLink, at which time the aggressor pursued him. The aggressor punched the victim and tackled him into some nearby landscaping. When officers began to arrive, the aggressor attempted to leave, northbound on Euclid Ave. He was quickly confronted by officers. He actively resisted being detained, resulting in the use of a taser by an officer. The taser had no effect on him and he continued to fight with the officers. Additional officers responded and they were able to gain control of the him. Officers called EMS and the SLMPD to the scene. The victim indicated that he wanted to press charges. The aggressor was charged with Assault 4th and conveyed to the BJH Emergency Department at his request.
